The National Reporting System for Adult Education (NRS) is the outcome-based performance accountability system for the State-administered, federally funded AEFLA program. Developed by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE), the NRS continues a cooperative process through which State adult education directors and DAEL manage a reporting system that demonstrates outcomes for AEFLA participants. An NRS technical working group provides guidance to OCTAE on NRS policy and projects designed to improve the use of NRS data.
The NRS Technical Assistance Guide and related technical assistance documents, available at the NRS Technical Assistance Website, assist State and local education staff in implementing and managing adult education performance accountability requirements.
The online NRS database is a performance and financial reporting system designed to collect aggregate statewide data from state grantees on an annual basis. Eligible state agencies utilize the online NRS database to comply with annual reporting requirements which include:
- Statistical performance reports
- Data quality checklist
- Federal financial reports
- Narrative Report
- Assessment Policy
Annual Performance Reports, the data quality checklist, and the assessment policy are due annually on October 1. The initial financial report and narrative report are due annually on December 31. The final financial report is due annually on January 28.
